Angela Gilbert Psy.D.

Dr. Angela Gilbert is a clinical psychologist who has been practicing full-time in the DC metropolitan area since 1993. She received her undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and her Doctor of Psychology degree from the Florida Institute of Technology.  Dr. Gilbert completed her predoctoral internship at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, DC.   She was subsequently employed as a Staff Psychologist by the VA Medical Center, working with patients suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, substance dependency, and a variety of medical disorders including chronic pain. She concurrently provided services at the Washington Women's Psychotherapy Center.  In August of 2000, Dr. Gilbert left the VA in order to pursue full time private practice and consultation.  She is the current director of Washington Women's Psychotherapy Center and Explore Options Consulting.

Dr. Gilbert has extensive experience providing psychotherapy—both individual and group—to a wide variety of clients.  Her clinical specialties include: brief, solution-focused therapy; behavioral medicine; habit change; and trauma recovery.  Dr. Gilbert is known for her warm, non-judgmental style and her strategic, collaborative approach.  Due to her wide range of clinical experience, her flexibility, and facility in utilizing varied approaches and intervention strategies, Dr. Gilbert has a unique ability to tailor her approach to the specific needs of the client.  Many clients achieve real and lasting change in relatively brief courses of treatment--much quicker than with insight-oriented therapy or cognitive therapy alone.  

Dr. Gilbert received extensive training and certification as a hypnotherapist from the American Hypnosis Training Academy (www.ahtainc.com), and is a member of the National Board of Certified Clinical Hypnotists (www.natboard.com).  Her training in hypnosis and neurolinguistic programming result in clients achieving desired outcomes more quickly.

In addition to her expertise as a clinician and agent of change, Dr. Gilbert has also provided over a thousand hours of clinical supervision, primarily in a teaching hospital.  She has provided workshops, lectures, and training to physicians, nurses, mental health providers, psychiatry residents, and other care providers. 

Dr. Gilbert has provided organizational consulting and seminars in various settings, including mental health service agencies, hotels (managerial staff), and non-profit organizations.  She has extensive experience facilitating groups of various types, and she enjoys organizational consulting, to help agencies and businesses to enhance employee morale and motivation, to improve effective teamwork and the bottom line.

Dr. Gilbert’s services include organizational consulting, psychotherapy, hypnosis, workshops and seminars, and life coaching.  She is the director of Explore Options Consulting, and the Washington Women’s Psychotherapy Center.
