For some people, there continues to be a stigma attached to
psychotherapy. Some may believe that if a person goes to
psychotherapy, there must be "something wrong" with them,
or that they might be "crazy."
On the contrary, psychotherapy can instead by seen as a
tool for achieving growth and reaching goals, and improving
quality of life. While it may be a specific problem that brings
someone to treatment, focus in therapy can be on
solutions...identifying what your goals are and working effectively
toward them.
- To identify what you want and go for it!
- To achieve a healthier lifestyle (ex: behavioral changes like increasing exercise, decreasing alcohol intake, or learning relaxation to lower blood pressure)
- To improve interpersonal relationships
- To function optimally during difficult life transitions
- To achieve personal and professional goals
- To improve self-esteem and develop more confidence
- To recognize behavior or relationship patterns that may be obstacles to one’s goals, and
change those patterns
